Alex Trimpe: Inside The Vertical Gin Line

…This is by no means the last chapter in TVGL saga. We are just taking a look at the bass player, Alex Trimpe. Here is what he had to say:

MI-What is your birth date?

MI-Describe the music of The Vertical Gin Line to me.
Alex-circus music with a metal vibe smoothed out on the
yanni tip

MI-Tell me the story about how you came up with
the band name.
Alex-well these other idiots couldn’t think of anything and
they were begging me “please please come up with
something” so i said “the virginal lies” and they took
liberties i guess.

MI-Tell me the story about how the band got together.
Alex-i was in a bicycle accident and nearly fell off the
manhattan bridge. i was dazed and i believe bleeding
internally when i got home.

MI-Tell me something you think we should know about everybody in the
band and be sure to tell up what the hell they do for the band.
Alex-you should absolutely know the following: todd walks
down the street with his glasses off so he can’t see
all the hot girls, tom is a very loud supporter of
so-called “fission technology” and matt owns and
operates the city’s smallest bodega.

MI-What is it like to play the world famous CBGB’s?
Alex-i wouldn’t know

MI-What is your favorite track off of the new CD and why?

cool and the phat bassline

MI-Where do you see the band in five years?
Alex-hard at work on the follow-up to the multi-platinum
album entitled “the line”

MI-If a movie were made of your life, what would the theme song be
and who would you want to play you?
Alex-i am very serious about this: i would want my
parents’ dog to play me. i see him as my “idealized
self” and what are movies for if not a little
idealism. as far as the theme song goes, i’d like the
imperial march from star wars if possible. if not
that, then i request that gwyneth paltrow/huey lewis
duet, i forget the name but it’s a cover. good shit.

MI-If I could wave a magic wand and make three things happen for The
Vertical Gin Line right now-what would those three things be?
Alex-1) rocking harder 2) the power of flight 3) a video
on TRL

Alex-i think jane’s addiction would be great because they
are venerable to a degree, yet we would blow them the
hell off the stage.

MI-Tell me about your dream record deal and who
Alex-it would be with V2. they have a cool picture and we could
imitate the Smashing Pumpkins and Saves The Day. We’re really like little monkeys, rolling around on the floor.

MI-Which comic book super hero would you be and why?
Alex-Would i be under which circumstances? it really
depends, but as a catch-all, i’m gonna say zzzzxxxxx.

MI-Have you ever inhaled?
Alex-Do you mean pot? i don’t want to answer this till i
know what you’re asking.

MI-What are your thoughts on legalizing drugs?
Alex-I think it’s a fine idea.

MI-If you were stuck on a desert island and could bring one CD, one bottle of liquor, one book, and one person-who and what would you bring?
Alex-I’d bring “sign o’ the times”, some jack daniels, this
book called “blood meridian” and that dog i was
telling you about before, remember?

eating ants on?

Alex-It’s sort of ugly, but at least it’s tall.

MI-What is your opinion on George W. Bush?
Alex-I really don’t have one.

MI-Do you believe in psychics-why or why not?
Alex-I do. The reason is they ought to be there, and I
think that pretty much proves it.

MI-Have you ever had a paranormal experience?
Alex-Not sure what you mean by that. If ufo’s count, yes.
If not – no.

MI-If you could have lunch with ANYBODY, living or dead, who would
that person be and why?
Alex-I was gonna say Kurt Vonnegut but since he’s really
old now, I’m guessing it’s sort of gross to eat with

that from the bottom of my heart.

the round”. You know, like a Def Leppard show.
