Alex Trimpe: Inside The Vertical Gin Line

...This is by no means the last chapter in TVGL saga. We are just taking a look at the bass player, Alex Trimpe. Here is what he had to say:

MI-What is your birth date?
Alex-7.8.73

MI-Describe the music of The Vertical Gin Line to me.
Alex-circus music with a metal vibe smoothed out on the
yanni tip

MI-Tell me the story about how you came up with
the band name.
Alex-well these other idiots couldn't think of anything and
they were begging me "please please come up with
something" so i said "the virginal lies" and they took
liberties i guess.

MI-Tell me the story about how the band got together.
Alex-i was in a bicycle accident and nearly fell off the
manhattan bridge. i was dazed and i believe bleeding
internally when i got home.

MI-Tell me something you think we should know about everybody in the
band and be sure to tell up what the hell they do for the band.
Alex-you should absolutely know the following: todd walks
down the street with his glasses off so he can't see
all the hot girls, tom is a very loud supporter of
so-called "fission technology" and matt owns and
operates the city's smallest bodega.

MI-What is it like to play the world famous CBGBs?
Alex-i wouldn't know

MI-What is your favorite track off of the new CD and why?
Alex-i'm gonna go with "strumfinger" because the name is so
cool and the phat bassline

MI-Where do you see the band in five years?
Alex-hard at work on the follow-up to the multi-platinum
album entitled "the line"

MI-Tell me what you want people to know about you.
Alex-I work very hard at being a nice guy

MI-Tell me about how you became a musician.
Alex-my daddy made me

MI-What are your influences as a musician?
Alex-my primary influences are public enemy, prince and the
verve pipe

MI-A lot of bands get labeled as EMO, what is your opinion on EMO?
Alex-as far as comedy goes, i've heard better

MI-Tell me about the song NO FLY ZONE.
Alex-i use a pick on it cause it's ROCKIN

MI-Who is the guy on the tricycle?
Alex-dave lombardi? i don't know, you tell me

MI-Tell me about your guest on trumpet, and is he going to become a
regular band member?
Alex-i've actually never met him

MI-Who would you compare yourself to musically?
Alex-can i say sahara hotnights? sahara hotnights.

MI-What inspires your lyrics?
Alex-life, the grand scheme. it seems like porn comes up a
lot.

MI-What makes The Vertical Gin Line the most important band out there?
Alex-i really don't know why you'd even have to ask. hey
if you don't know, i can't help you. sorry (I asked what you Thought kid....lol).

MI-If a movie were made of your life, what would the theme song be
and who would you want to play you?
Alex-i am very serious about this: i would want my
parents' dog to play me. i see him as my "idealized
self" and what are movies for if not a little
idealism. as far as the theme song goes, i'd like the
imperial march from star wars if possible. if not
that, then i request that gwyneth paltrow/huey lewis
duet, i forget the name but it's a cover. good shit.

MI-If I could wave a magic wand and make three things happen for The
Vertical Gin Line right now-what would those three things be?
Alex-1) rocking harder 2) the power of flight 3) a video
on TRL

MI-Who in the world would you most like to open for and why?
Alex-i think jane's addiction would be great because they
are venerable to a degree, yet we would blow them the
hell off the stage.

MI-Tell me about your dream record deal and who
Alex-it would be with V2. they have a cool picture and we could
imitate the Smashing Pumpkins and Saves The Day. We're really like little monkeys, rolling around on the floor.

MI-Which comic book super hero would you be and why?
Alex-Would i be under which circumstances? it really
depends, but as a catch-all, i'm gonna say zzzzxxxxx.

MI-Have you ever inhaled?
Alex-Do you mean pot? i don't want to answer this till i
know what you're asking.

MI-What are your thoughts on legalizing drugs?
Alex-I think it's a fine idea.

MI-If you were stuck on a desert island and could bring one CD, one bottle of liquor, one book, and one person-who and what would you bring?
Alex-I'd bring "sign o' the times", some jack daniels, this
book called "blood meridian" and that dog i was
telling you about before, remember?

MI-Who in the world would you most like to dump a bucket of flesh
eating ants on?
Alex-Brit Hume.

MI-What is your favorite movie of all time and why?
Alex-Groundhog Day. Why? I have enormous respect for
perfection, that's why.

MI-Where were you when 9-11 happened and how did it affect you?
Alex-I was asleep in the mountains. it affected me
negatively, i have to say.

MI-How would YOU have designed a memorial for the victims of 9-11?
Alex-It would have been made of solid gold, that's for
sure.

MI-What are your thoughts about the FREEDOM TOWER that is being put
up at ground zero?
Alex-It's sort of ugly, but at least it's tall.

MI-What is your opinion on George W. Bush?
Alex-I really don't have one.

MI-Do you believe in psychics-why or why not?
Alex-I do. The reason is they ought to be there, and I
think that pretty much proves it.

MI-Have you ever had a paranormal experience?
Alex-Not sure what you mean by that. If ufo's count, yes.
If not - no.

MI-If you could have lunch with ANYBODY, living or dead, who would
that person be and why?
Alex-I was gonna say Kurt Vonnegut but since he's really
old now, I'm guessing it's sort of gross to eat with
him.

MI-Who in the world would you most like to see The Vertical Gin Line
open for and why?
Alex-To Gaze, because their music is pure magic and I mean
that from the bottom of my heart.

MI-What venue in the world would you most like to play and why?
Alex-Bowery Ballroom. I like the bar area a lot. It's "in
the round". You know, like a Def Leppard show.

MI-Tell me a joke.
Alex-man you are demanding. (don't get it? go to
www.manyouaredemanding.com)

MI-If you were god for a week, what would you do?
Alex-I'd probably smite the infidels, right? i mean, turn
them to salt or something?

MI-Tell me, what is your favorite quote of all time?
Alex-"We can turn beans into peas!"

Thanks Alex...We look forward to seeing your 'PHAT BASS LINES' Live.
