Peter Wichers: Soilwork

Hey, I really liked this guy-but he left the goddamn band. I have no clue what it is like to be on the road 365 days a year and not see your family. I imagine you get pretty fucking tired-so hey good luck to the newest Swedish producer! He left the band very graciously, and I wish him all of the best! This is one of the last interviews he did before he left the band. This interview was done live at the historic Masquerade in Atlanta, GA in the middle of eighty thousand sound checks-much like every other live interview I have ever done. So this interview is a little bit of history right here on my corner of the net-read on!

MI: What is your birthday?

Peter: February 7th.

MI: Describe your music to us.

Peter: Extreme melodic metal.

MI: Who were your musical influences growing up as a kid?

Peter: Guns N Roses, Dire Straights, Metallica, Pantera, some Cannibal Corpse, Devin Townsend, Steve Vai...

MI: When you're at home and not working what is your average day like?

Peter: Work out, write music, and spend as much time with my wife as possible.

MI: When did you decide to become a musician?

Peter: When I was younger my Uncle got me into it. I was 15 or 16 and I became a practicing maniac.

MI: Where do you get your inspiration for the lyrics on the CD?

Peter: I don't write the lyrics, but the guy who does write them puts everything good and bad that happens in his life into his lyrics.

MI: Who was your hero growing up?

Peter: James Hetfield.

MI: How did the death of Dimebag Darrell affect you?

Peter: I was driving up to Boston and I had heard about it on the news that morning so the entire 16 hour drive there it never left my head. I was scared too because we tour almost the same places he did.

MI: What are your goals as a musician?

Peter: To work with music for the rest of my life. Also to sell gold or platinum.

MI: How does it feel to be on Ozzfest?

Peter: That's definitely a kick ass thing for us. I know that it's so big right now. It's going to be a lot of fun.

MI: If you had three wishes granted for the band what would they be?

Peter: That no matter how big we got that we can remain ordinary guys. That we would be able to headline everywhere in the world.

MI: If you were not a musician what do you think you would be doing right now?

Peter: I would produce and record and write music. I would be more of a study guy.

MI: Who would you compare yourself to as a guitar player?

Peter: I'm an average guitar player. I don't see myself as a guitar hero.

MI: Who do you think is the best metal band out there?

Peter: Morbid Angel for sticking around as long as they have.

MI: If you could have lunch with anyone living or dead who would it be?

Peter: Dimebag Darrell.

MI: What comic book character would you be?

Peter: Superman.

MI: Have you ever inhaled?

Peter: Yes.

MI: What do you think about the legalization of marijuana?

Peter: It almost seems to me like it's legal in the states even though it's not. I'm more of a drinker.

MI: What's your favorite drink?

Peter: Crown and Diet Coke.

MI: What was the worst job you've ever had?

Peter: Delivering newspapers on Saturday mornings.

MI: Do you believe in psychics?

Peter: I believe in some psychics but not all of them.

MI: Have you ever had a paranormal experience?

Peter: No.

MI: Where do you see the band five years from now?

Peter: Either being very successful or not being around at all.

MI: What's the worst thing you've ever seen on the road?

Peter: When we were touring with Chiamara in Salt Lake city 2003. I've never seen so many people getting beat up in one night like I did when we were up there.

MI: What do you want people to know about you and the band?

Peter: That we are one of the least rock star people. Everyone knows that when they come up to us we're just normal people. We always take our time and talk with the fans.

MI: Do you have any new videos coming up from the new CD?

Peter: We have one vide that's being aired on Uranium right now. When we were in L.A. we just recorded another video.

MI: Do you have a message for your fans?

Peter: From the bottom of our hearts thanks to everyone for supporting us.

MI: What is your favorite quote?

Peter: Live for now.

MI: What is the band's website?

Peter: www.Soilwork.org
