Louise Post: Veruca Salt
Louise Post Interview
Music Incider Magazine
MI: What is your birthday?
MI: Tell us about the new album coming out.
Louise: It's an EP that we're releasing on the road and on our website through my label Velveteen Records. It's called "Lords of Sounds and Lesser Things."
MI: Have any of the band members changed since last album?
Louise: Two of them have. I am really happy with the current line-up.
MI: When do you guys plan on coming through Atlanta?
Louise: It's on the tour itinerary. I know we're coming there but I don't know exactly when.
MI: Describe your music.
Louise: It's melodic rock. I think it's a lot more positive than my last record. I was in a place of desperate need to write and scream about things that were going on with me when I did the last record which was me mainly going through breakups. I've had a much more serene life in the past year and a half.
MI: Who were your musical influences growing up?
Louise: David Bowie, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Rolling Stones, Jimmy Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Prince, Velvet Underground, U2, Brian Eno, The Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, and Nirvana.
MI: If you could grant three wishes for the band what would they be?
Louise: Financial, emotional, and spiritual prosperity.
MI: What band would you like to play with?
Louise: I'd like to play with The Pixies.
MI: What are your thoughts on the legalization of marijuana?
Louise: I'm not a pot smoker and I think it's great if it's used medicinally but I've seen people have some serious addictive issues with it.
MI: If you could do anything for the victims of Hurricane Katrina what would you do?
Louise: I'd give them their lives and homes back. Beyond that, I'm hoping to play at least one lucrative benefit show for the survivors. I can't imagine how they feel being uprooted like that.
MI: What do you want people to know about you?
Louise: I went through a long time of hating myself and now I'm really happy to be me.
MI: Who was your hero growing up?
Louise: My big sister was. Both of them.
MI: Have you ever had a paranormal experience?
Louise: I don't know if this qualifies as a paranormal experience but a father of a close friend passed away and just before it happened I had a visitation dream where an ex-boyfriend whom I haven't talked to in years came to me and told me about this individual who was very sick and was going to die.
MI: What do you love about being a musician?
Louise: When I write a song I feel like I'm the most intimate with myself and I get to learn about myself. It's like one on one therapy.
MI: What do you hate about being a musician?
Louise: The business aspect.
MI: What would you warn a young band about when it came to the music business?
Louise: Have good counsel and people that you trust around you and look out for yourself and continue to communicate with your band members.
MI: What's the worst job you've ever had?
Louise: Working at Sara Lee.
MI: How did you come up with the name of the band?
Louise: We were scanning through books and looking at different names and one of them was Veruca Salt so we stuck with it.
MI: What pisses you off about the world?
Louise: The environmental irresponsibility of our administration.
MI: How do you feel about Bush?
Louise: He scares the shit out of me.
MI: If you had a million dollars to donate to charity what charity would it be?
Louise: Some sort of Hurricane relief charity.
MI: Do you have a message for your fans?
Louise: I love you and I can't wait to play shows and get to hang out with you all.
MI: Do you plan to make a video?
Louise: Not currently but that's certainly a possibility.
MI: What is your favorite quote of all time?
Louise: Our lives like our bodies are in continual flux. Something is hourly left and something acquired. Do not suffer life to stagnate for want of motion. Commit yourself again to the currents of the world.
MI: What is the website?
