Mille Petrozza

Mille Petrozza: A Talk With The KREATOR

Mille Petrozza is the lead guitar player and vocalist for the EXTREME German thrash metal band Kreator. Everybody should love Mille. I love Mille-anybody who tells me to raise THE FLAG OF HATE wins my vote. Here is what the master
of Extreme Agression has to say:

MI: What is your birthday?

Mille: 18th of December.

MI: What made you decide to become a musician?

Mille: We were into metal as kids and wanted to start our own band and that’s how it all came about.

MI: Describe the music of Kreator to me.

Mille: It’s pretty intense. It’s extreme metal.

MI: What has been the biggest influence on your life?

Mille: I guess life itself. Being able to communicate and absorb things and learn from things.

MI: Who has been the biggest musical influence in your life?

Mille: Stuff like The Ramones and Venom, music with an attitude. Judas Priest was a big one.

MI: Who’s your favorite poet?

Mille: My favorite poet would be a German guy. Goethe.

MI: Tell me about each member of the band.

Mille: We have Speesy who is the bass player, and then we have Ventor who is the drummer, and Sami is the lead guitar player.

MI: Tell us something you think we should know about the Kreator band members.

Mille: I think they’re all pretty easy guys, very normal and very down to earth. They are very nice to hang out with and very dedicated.

MI: What influences your lyrics and songwriting?

Mille: Mostly stuff that I read and that I hear. Sometime we do political issues even though we’re not a political band. It’s not really in your face it’s all very subliminal.

MI: How did Kreator get together?

Mille: It was a school band. We met when we were in school.

MI: Why did you guys change the name of the band from Tormented to Creator?

Mille: That’s just because we changed names around that time every other week. We thought Tormented was a little too one-dimensional.

MI: If you were not a musician what would you be doing right now to make a living?

Mille: I guess I would be a student.

MI: Who do you think the greatest musician is?

Mille: I don’t feel that there is any greatest. The best songwriters are people like Johnny Cash who can make each song out of who they are.

MI: What are your favorite current bands?

Mille: I like so many. I like a little bit of everything.

MI: What is the most memorable thing that has happened on The Art Of The Noise tour?

Mille: Basically the shows itself. We had a great show in San Francisco, a couple good shows in L.A., and in Texas there were good shows. To me the greatest thing is getting the audience going.

MI: What do you want people to know about you?

Mille: Not much! I’m happy to do what I do and to me it’s all about the music.

MI: When you’re not on the road what are you doing at home?

Mille: Hanging. I’m a big fan of movies. I do normal stuff that 99% of all of us would do. I like playing sports.

MI: Whom would you compare yourself vocally too?

Mille: No one.

MI: What is your favorite Kreator song to play live?

Mille: Extreme Aggressions is one of my favorites.

MI: What is your opinion on legalizing drugs?

Mille: I think all drugs should be legal just to put taxes on them and make sure that the people that are on heavy drugs don’t die from the stuff they shoot up.

MI: Tell me what you think about MTV.

Mille: It’s a little better now. They have MTV2 and Headbanger’s Ball. I like the idea of music television but I don’t like the idea of corporate music television. I hate the idea of cultural fashion, which is what a lot of those programs do. They decide what you should listen to. I think music television should be open for any kind of music and not just what they think is cool or not just what gets the most money from the record companies pocket now.

MI: Do you believe in psychics and have you ever had paranormal experiences?

Mille: Yeah, when I was on acid. I believe in some of that stuff but I’m a pretty rational guy so I need proof. I know that there are certain things between life and death that we don’t really get because we’re not linked to nature anymore. It’s nothing paranormal; it’s normal things that we don’t understand anymore.

MI: What is your opinion on George W. Bush?

Mille: He’s definitely not the best President the United States has ever had.

MI: If a movie was made about your life what would the theme song be and whom would you want to play you?

Mille: Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors. It would be someone new. The movie theme would be something along the lines of the 80’s.

MI: Why is 1984 by George Orwell one of your favorite books?

Mille: It’s a very negative outlook on the world but it kind of makes sense. If you look at the world now of how everything is controlled by mass media it’s not fiction anymore.

MI: What is your favorite horror movie?

Mille: It would be Eraserhead even though it’s not a real horror movie.

MI: In what way do you find America and Germany to be different and in what ways do you find them to be the same?

Mille: I think people are the same everywhere. Germany is very small compared to the United States. Germany tries to look up to the United States especially when it comes to products and passion and technology.

MI: Where were you when 9-11 happened?

Mille: I was in Greece. It was a shock. I was in the middle of an interview and someone switched on the TV and I thought what happened was an accident. That was 10 times worse than any horror movie I’ve seen so far.

MI: If you could build a memorial for the victims of 9-11 what would it be?

Mille: It would be firemen, someone that risks their life to help others.

MI: Why do you think metal music is more popular in Germany?

Mille: I guess because Germany has better structure when it comes to promoting the whole thing. In Germany it’s more apart of the culture and more accepted.

MI: Whom would you like to pour a bucket of flesh eating ants on?

Mille: I don’t want to waste my time hating people anymore.

MI: Who do you think the greatest actor is?

Mille: I don’t really have a favorite actor. I think a good actor is an actor that picks the right movies.

MI: What do you think about Arnold becoming governor of California?

Mille: Let’s give the guy a chance. I’m a little critical about that.

MI: Do you think Bush is going to get re-elected?

Mille: I don’t think so. I think that he pissed off a lot of people by sending troops to Iraq.

MI: Do you have a message for your fans?

Mille: Thanks for all the support.

MI: What is your favorite quote?

Mille: Be yourself.

Thanks Mille. You are the best!
