Sevendust EXPLODES at the Tabernacle
Atlanta, GA 10/07/03
Sevendust is: Lajon Witherspoon, John Connolly (guitar), Clint Lowery (guitar), Vince Hornsby (bass), and Morgan Rose (drums).
Lo-Pro was pretty fucking great. They were a pretty good choice to open for the hometown heroes known as Sevendust. Staind, nobody really gave a flying fuck about Staind. You may want to ask, how do I know? You may think Staind is pretty fucking awesome, and think that I don’t pay any attention to anything accept my fucking Nikon. NOT TRUE. I heard what you crazy fuckers were saying before Sevendust took the stage. –The following are DIRECT QUOTES from the audience.
‘Fuck Staind. I wish Sevendust would hurry the fuck up and get on the fucking stage.’
‘Sevendust is going to BLOW Staind out of Atlanta.’
‘The only thing I give a fuck about tonight is Sevendust, and I came all the way from fuckin’ Henry county.’
‘I got their fucking album TODAY. It sold out by the time I got out of the store man. I was fucking lucky.’
I like Staind, but I have to admit I came to the Tabernacle for Sevendust for all the same reasons everybody else did. The new Sevendust cd, ‘Seasons,’ came out on October 7th. Seasons was recorded in Atlanta. A hometown band that kicks ass was in town-and nothing is more fucking awesome than when a bunch of local boys make good. Sevendust is a better name than Crawlspace any day of the week, and I had never seen them live. I thought it would be a GREAT fucking story, and it was more than that-it was an experience.
-Lajon and the rest of Sevendust hit the stage and the energy was so fucking intense that people cried. I don’t know if it was tears of joy or what, but people were moved to tears. There was not one ass in a balcony seat. I go to a lot of fucking concerts, and very few bands can provoke such a reaction. Atlanta loves music, and has a pulsating music scene-but I have never seen so many tears. –So, let’s talk about Sevendust. Lajon Witherspoon is fucking beautiful on stage. He was a master at working the Atlanta crowd up. He has a voice that can go from a deep growl into a funky R&B in sixty seconds or less. It takes a powerful voice to front two guitars and a bass. When you think of Lajon, you should think about a cross between Ronnie James Dio and George Clinton. He is seasoned onstage, and VERY fucking impressive.
-Morgan Rose on drums was fucking Louis Belson jazzy and Tim Mallare heavy. He has a stage presence that reminds me of Rikki Rockett from Poison. Now bear in mind that he did all of this fucking amazing drumming while doing back up vocals. Morgan was a busy motherfucker. Zak Stevens would have been proud. –Then there were those fucking guitar players, John Connolly and Clint Lowery. They were the fucking dynamic duo, but both of them were Batman. I have a thing for guitar players, great guitar players. These boys qualify. Just for the hell of it, I am going to tell you what flashed into my mind when I saw them-Ace Frehley and Paul Stanley. –Last but not least let’s talk about Vince Hornsby on bass. Vince reminds me of Rachel Bolan of Skid Row onstage. We all know Rachel kicks ass, but the secret is out. So does Vince.
Sevendust is more than worth the price of a ticket. They have a heavy metal sound with a thread of that bluesy rhythm and blues that I love so fucking much. Sevendust is ready to play the BIG venues with the BIG boys. I love the Tabernacle, but there were so many people at this show that it would have been better suited to the HI FI BUYS. Then all those teary eyed mother fuckers would have had some fucking room to bang their heads. Next time they hit town, MusicIncider will be there.
